Black Porcelain Sea Urchin Necklace

Black ocean necklace from the Porcelain Sea Urchin Collection 

This collection is inspired by a very special place, the North/Eastermost piece of land of Colombia, the peninsular La Guajira. It was there that I discovered the first time this exceptional creature. I was immediately captivated by his unbelievable beauty - the symetric structures of its test - and wanted to work with it. To create jewlery out of the sea urchin I had to search for very little ones in the sea. Playfully nature builds with radiating dotted lines a masterful form. The sea urchin reminds us of the beauty of being. Variations made from silver or porcelain with delicate precious metal settings exude vitality.

This necklace is available in three different sizes:

• Sea Urchin Size Small Ø 1,8 cm
• Sea Urchin Size Medium Ø 2,5 cm
• Sea Urchin Size Big Ø 3,5 cm

Chain length:

-Small Sea urchin_ 56 cm (+ extra ring at 46 cm)

-Big See urchin_70 cm (+ extra ring at 50 cm) or 60 cm (+ extra ring at 50 cm)... 
So you can choose between the 2 lengths, depending on the top you are wearing.

Process
Based on a real sea urchin I produce a plaster mould. Then fluid Mont Blanc porcelain is pulled into the mould. All produced porcelain elements are further processed and after drying the porcelain is fired twice. It is due to the very high firing temperature of 1250 degrees, that the material gets its strength and longevity, it becomes non-porous.
